Moana and Yuletide reveals
Jan. 1st, 2017 05:07 pmWe just saw Moana with my brother, niece and nephew. I cried a lot, especially during the first few scenes.
The other day the boy was swimming at the beach, and he saw some young Maori teenage girls standing waist-deep in the water, quoting lines from Moana to each other and laughing, so I think a lot of my tears were just about that: that Maori and Pacifica people here and abroad are getting to see an echo of themselves in a slick, adorable Disney film, and that's never happened before. *sniffles* This stuff matters.
(Also, ha! Temuera Morrison was the chief! I totally recognised his voice. ♥ And Moana's grandmother was Rachel House, the cop from Hunt for the Wilderpeople, who btw is younger than me and therefore too young to be playing a granny, ha!)

skygiant's Healer request, I knew I wanted to take a crack at it, but I also knew that, if I did, I was going to have to address the part Healer Inc. historically played in enabling powerful bad guys. After the US election, that was doubly true. I hope I did it justice, in some small way.
